The term host can refer to a person that provides hospitality, but may also hold other meanings in sciences and computing.

In biology, a host is an organism that harbors another, which can be either a parasite or a symbiont. The host will usually provide both nourishment and shelter to the other organism.

In psychology, the term host is used to describe the most important mental entity that occurs in individuals with multiple personality disorder.

While a radio or TV host or hostess is the person who announces or presents a show, the term can also be used for individuals who present various events, such as award shows or conferences.

The term network host denotes a computer that is connected to a computer network and that can offer information resources and services to other users within that network. Web hosting refers to an Internet hosting service that enables individuals to make their website available online. Web hosts provide server space for use for their clients, coupled with Internet connectivity in a data center. Some hosts can also offer data center space and internet connectivity to other servers, which is often called co-location or housing. The most basic service offered by such a company is file hosting and a web page whose content can be updated via File Transfer Protocol. Personal website hosting can be either free, advertising-sponsored or fairly inexpensive, while business website hosting is typically more costly.

Virtual hosting is a method hat allows for multiple domain names to be hosted on a single server or pool of server. This enables a server to share its resources without needing all of the services provided to use the same name.

A terminal host refers to a multi-user computer that provides services to computer terminals, or to smaller devices.
