inauguration
Inauguration describes the beginning of something, and is typically used as a political term, such as the U.S. Presidential Inauguration.
The inauguration of a U.S. President is usually marked by days of festivities leading up to the swearing-in of the new Vice President (at 11:30am) and President (at noon) on January 20, followed by an inaugural address from the President, a parade, and a few more days of celebration. Some inaugurations are more notable than others.
The 2009 inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama featured a record crowd (estimated to be two million people) gathered in person to watch the ceremony and surrounding festivities, and was also broadcast live around the world.
Many bloggers expressed strong feelings about the 2009 U.S. Presidential inauguration. Some reminisced or cheered, while others downplayed the event.
The 2013 inauguration is unlikely to receive quite as much attention, but a new U.S. President is inaugurated every four years. After the inauguration is when the work begins.
