These Ancient Stones
http://eve3.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 10/ 04/ these-ancient-stones/There are universal laws of spiritual farming, laws of reaping and sowing, of judging not lest we be judged. We know they’re true, even though we don’t exercise ourselves often or well enough to get to the place where all we sow is goodness, love, and light.

Make a Difference
http://eve3.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 30/ make-a-difference/Recently someone asked me when I was going to start making a difference, or something to that effect. When I write “to that effect,” I mean that what he said had this particular effect on me, whether he intended it or not.

The Gift of Clarity
http://eve3.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 18/ the-gift-of-clarity/My conflict with Juniper’s teacher has been useful for shedding light on the often dark paths toward the ever-evolving real selves of my daughter and me. That the conflict involves one of my children is better yet, because conflicts involving one’s children rank among the highest for potential usefulness.

What is Truth?
http://eve3.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 09/ what-is-truth/Our daughter’s fourth grade teacher recently became a “stone of stumbling and rock of offense” to us, giving us the gift and challenge of conflict. I don’t blame Miss Brown, although I see some facts about her behavior and think I understand the tenor of her words. Miss Brown’s life work so far has been teaching.

Off to St. Paul?
http://www.gaypatriot.net/ 2008/ 08/ 28/ off-to-st-paul/When I traveled cross-country last fall, a close friend who lives in our nation’s capital observed that one of the great challenges in my life has been the tension between my interest in politics and my passion for literature (or, as I would put it, in myths, movies, novels or poems).

Sidetracked
http://eve3.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 08/ 27/ sidetracked/Sidetracked is what happens when one is going along toward a goal and suddenly there’s a detour. The detour may take us around an obstacle and back to the road that leads to the goal, or it may take us farther and farther away from our goal. Sometimes I feel despair when I’ve been sidetracked.

Wasp
http://eve3.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 08/ 20/ wasp/One year after Olivia’s death, my teenage and adult children and I were playing a game called Imaginif, in which the players answer questions about one another. I was the subject of the question, “If this player were an insect, which one would she be?” The possible answers were louse, ant, wasp, praying mantis, butterfly, and glow worm.

How Do I Matter?
http://adammclane.com/ 2008/ 07/ 26/ how-do-i-matter/Every person who attends your church needs to know the answer to this question. Church leaders, how are you answering it? There are two thoughts that lead me to this question. The first comes from Christopher Brook’s blog. He contemplates our freedom of conversion in contrast to the cost associated with that conversion.
