Internet Explorer, or simply IE, is the web browser developed by Microsoft and the default web browser offered with all Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Internet Explorer is also the most widely used web browser worldwide.

Microsoft first released Internet Explorer in 1995 with Windows 95 and as a standalone add-on to Windows 95. In the 1990s Internet Explorer was the dominant web browser, competing primarily with Netscape. However, as internet technology has advanced, Internet Explorer has come against very stiff competition in the web browser market.

Current versions of Internet Explorer are designed to be more competitive with browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Opera.
