Tag details

IP is the abbreviation for internet protocol, and is used for communicating data across a packet-switched internetwork using the Internet Protocol Suite, also referred to as TCP/IP. Packets of data are transmitted across the internet from one IP address to its destination IP address allowing networks to communicate with one another.

IP is also used within the telephony industry making it possible to offer both voice and data on a single switch and internet T1 services that provide more bandwidth for lower costs. Voice transmitted over IP, is called VoIP, and has made it possible to offer scalable telecommunications solutions for the small to medium business that were once only possible for enterprise level companies. The cost saving benefits of new IP products, such as a Hosted IP PBX, allow companies to add advanced product offerings without the large up front hardware investments that are typically required for advanced phone systems.

With the surge of companies competing to offer the best web hosting it is possible to get a managed dedicated server and multiple IP addresses.

IP and the technologies surrounding it continue to create unlimited possibilities with voice and data communications. Learn more about IP technologies and the evolving products using internet protocol at the IP Development Network Blog.
