iPhone 4s is the name of the 5th generation of smartphones in the iPhone series. It was launched in October 2011. It combines the abilities of a hand-held computer with those of a cell phone, GPS unit, and media player. Users can also access the Apple online infrastructure in order to download media content or applications that will further the phone's capabilities or access and store data through a cloud computing system called iCloud.

The phone retains the same design of its predecessor, the iPhone 4, with a slim case made of matte glass on the front and back sides, and a stainless steel band wrapped around the edges. The display is a LED backlit TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen with a 940x640 resolution and a 3.5 inch diagonal. The colors available for cases, as with its predecessors, are black and white.

On the back of the device, you can find a 8 megapixels camera that features true 1080 HD video at 30fps capability, a f/2.4 lens, face detection and automatic white balance.

While the basic input features of the iPhone line, mainly the multi-touch display, are available as the basic means of user - device interaction, the iPhone 4s also incorporates Apple's "intelligent assistant". The application, named Siri, allows the user to interact verbally with the phone and receive voiced answers to commands like web surfing, text messaging or geographical positioning. It also has voice-to-text capability allowing for text input through dictation. The application currently supports English, French and German.

iPhone 4s comes with a new A5 dual-core processor that is shared with the iPad2 which offers better response times in multi-tasking, application launch, web page loading and improved graphical capabilities compared to previous installments in the iPhone line. It retains the same 512 MB RAM capacity as its predecessor and has a variable storage capacity of 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB, based on the model chosen.

The operating system of iPhone 4s is the new iOS 5, which Apple claims to have over 200 new features, such as better use of resources, easier access to social networks like Twitter or Facebook through the use of notifications or improvements to the use of the camera.

The phone has two antennas built into the stainless steel band with signal receiving capabilities being improved as the cellular radio is now able to switch between the two, based on receiving or sending signal quality. The manufacturer claims that the redesigned antennas will allow for improved maximum download speed of up to 14.4Mbps over HSDPA.

The battery is lithium-ion, with a standard standby time estimated at 200 hours, 8 hours talk time over 3G technology, 10 hours of video playback or 40 hours while listening to music.
