jewellery

Jewellery is the British spelling of the American word jewelry. A simple definition of the word jewellery is: an adornment such as a bracelet, ring or necklace, often made from precious metals, and worn by a person.

Although jewellery is commonly made from precious metals such as gold and silver, other materials such as gemstones and shells can be made into jewellery.


Jewellery has many uses, some of which are culturally influenced. Some uses include wealth storage, functionality for attaching, pinning or clasping, to symbolize membership, and for art. An example of what we may call South African Jewellery could have been culturally influenced, but as some will argue, adding the word "influenced" to the description does not take from the beauty.
