Joomla is an open source content management system used to publish content to the Internet. It's licensed under The GNU General Public License Version 2, and is feature rich and easy to use. There are various extensions available to enhance its core functionality. User forums come in handy when you require assistance.

Joomla is especially useful for building community sites, for example online magazines, newspapers, non-profit websites, educational websites, and commercial/personal websites. It helps you manage any kind of content, whether it be media or text. Large organizations that use Joomla include the United Nations and Harvard University.

The Joomla Developer Network provides useful information and tips to Joomla developers, who can build database intensive applications if they know PHP and MySQL. There are also extensions available that provide programmers with templates for many applications.
