Kefir is a fermented beverage often used to introduce probiotics into the diet.
Most popular is milk kefir and other fermented dairy products. Non-dairy kefir can also be made using nut, seed or soy milks. There is also a non-dairy variety of kefir called water kefir which uses mineral water, raw water, well water or spring water as the liquid.
Generally, kefir grains are used during the fermentation process. Milk kefir grains are used for milk kefir and water kefir grains for water kefir.
Sometimes a kefir starter is used, which contains beneficial bacteria, during the fermentation process, rather than grains.
Besides, providing the body with "good" bacteria, kefir is said to also contribute to health in a variety of other ways, some of which include: liver and endocrine system cleansing, increased energy levels, fighting of food cravings, and more.
