knitting

Knitting is a functional art form that uses a variety of stitches to create something out of a single strand of yarn. While knitting was once considered to be an old-fashioned or maternal hobby (i.e. grandmothers knitting sweaters or expectant mothers knitting booties), there has recently been a renaissance.

Twenty- and thirty-somethings are taking up knitting in large numbers, and are not content to just knit tea cozies. Scarves, sweaters, hats, tops, and other accessories inspired by popular designers are a common knits, as are things you normally wouldn't associate with knitting, like stuffed monsters, arm slings, and even a womb.

  • cabled, this time

    InkTracksAuthority Authority: 108
Using the cabled strips I first showed on January 22 I made a new ball. (Two views) Though the strips are more interesting to knit, I dont think the cables add enough interest to make them worthwhile. These strips are 10 stitches wide, 8 inches long in a DK yarn. The cable flattens the strip compared to a ...

Hi, folks. Rooster here. Another doozy of a week — the start of classes (including mine!), and the work of adjusting to a new routine, a new commute (from the lake house), a new pattern for Boh. Here’s hoping I’ll figure out where blogging fits into all of that very soon. All went well this week, but there’s ...

You will be relieved to know that my recent bout of yarn-lust didnt result in a purchase. Maybe it was because Id spent several hours rummaging ...

I was reasonably pleased with the first baby blanket I knitted for Marmite. I had wanted squares and a sort of ‘organised’ feel to it and it came up much as I hoped. But the way I constructed it meant the back was quite raw and ‘back of something’ like and I think it will be better lined. I’ve got some ...
