Last week’s What Is It? didn’t manage to get a correct answer! The dog breed is a Komondor, a livestock guardian dog breed originally from Hungary. Their white corded coats are said to be the heaviest in the canine world and require a lot of care and maintenance to keep the cords separated so they don’t become a giant matted mess!

With a Komondor dog, you can grow her/his hair, then cut it to use it for a rag. Komonodor dog from Wikipedia: Its long, thick, strikingly corded white coat (the heaviest amount of fur in the canine world) resembles dreadlocks or a mop. The puppy coat is soft and fluffy.

Jun 2008 27 Komondor Dog Breed Profile Posted by Categories: Pets and Animals When one first sees a Komondor, it is an unforgettable experience. This dog quite literally resembles a very large white floor mop. The heavy mass of hair is completely “corded” over the whole body, including the face, to the extent that one wonders how the dog can see at all.

Klyde's dad is a purebred Komondor and his mom a black lab. He is 5 months old and very large. He is also very sweet and gets along with the other dogs. He is doing very well at housebreaking. Klyde is neutered and his shots are up to date. We met Klyde through All Rovers Rescue Friends (ARRF) in Toledo, Ohio.
