From Aladdin's magical one to the kerosene one you take up to the mountains for camping trips, lamps have always been an integral part of our society. Although they come in different types and sizes, they all serve to illuminate. In fact, you may be using a lamp to read this article right now.

Lamps and light fixtures are usually categorized by their light function, the lamp type, or how the fixture is installed. These three defining characteristics are used to sort every lamp from the canned lamp to the solar light.

When Thomas Edison first invented the light bulb, it suddenly opened up a world of possibilities for lamps. No longer did it have to be an oil lamp to illuminate a room. Pendant lights, street lights, floodlights, and strobe lights all began to appear in homes around the world.

Lamps can range from a gigantic chandelier (a la "The Phantom of the Opera") all the way down to a simple night light or lamps for kids. And everything (size, sort, and color) in between. Bloggers speaking about lamps can be found at sites like tiffanylampblog.
