A lawn is more than a field of mowed and cultivated grass maintained at a low and even height, it can represent an aesthetic, calming environment equipped with garden furniture and benches for sitting, as well as a playing area for sports and other recreation.

Typically to grow a lawn, grass seeds are planted, which germinate with the help of water, and grow with the help of soil and the sun.

Other ways to grow grass include planting small grass plants which will eventually spread, or laying out blankets of sod in hopes that it will take root.

Some of the many types of grass include: bluegrass, bentgrass, ryegrasses and fescues.
