life coaching
A popular way to reach goals is life coaching. You hire a business/personal coach to team up with you and help identify goals, provide support, and often push you to end procrastination to reach success more quickly than you would on your own. Bloggers ask, what can life coaching do for me?
Life coaching emerged over 40 years ago as a helping approach in mental health, as consulting services in business, and as mentoring in education. Universities historically provided coursework related to the skills and knowledge needed to effectively coach, but without a specific 'life coaching' label. Courses are generally found in the mental health, business, and education disciplines. There is no professional license that defines and identifies qualified life coaches. Some offer caution about the risk to consumers of 'unqualified' coaches. Anyone can advertise life coaching services.
Since the 1990s, many life coaching specific organizations have appeared and assigned themselves the task of defining and setting their standards for life coaching. Today, there is a plethora of coach training programs, often online, offering their particular life coaching certificates/certifications. Life coaching programs can be expensive, with few (if any) criteria for enrollment.
