The invention of the light bulb is generally attributed to Thomas Edison although there have been other inventors prior to him.

Edison's contribution was to invent an entire integrated system of electric lighting that used power from a centralized source which made the light bulb economically viable.

Early light bulbs were assembled by hand. Production costs were reduced significantly when automatic machinery was invented.

Different light bulbs are available today from LED Light Bulbs that reduce energy costs to other energy saving light bulbs and conventional light bulbs (which are declining due to their energy inefficiency).
