localization

Localization refers to adjusting something or adapting it in such a way so that it fits or "makes sense to" a specific local audience.

Examples include: Translation of a document from one language into another so that it can be read by a subset of people who speak the translated language.

It may also involve modifying a television program so that it can be viewed by people of a different language or culture. It may be as simple as adding subtitles.


Localization in the Internet world may refer to displaying specific content (in the form of text or video or advertising, etc) to a visitor of a particular country, city or region that only pertains to them. This distinction is more commonly referred to as geo-targeting.
