lock

A Lock is most often described as a security device, designed to protect valuables, or to keep intruders out.

We lock the doors to our homes at night, and we lock our cars when we leave them unattended. Locks come in many varieties, but most often will require a key or a numerical combination in order to regain access or entry to the items we are trying to protect.

Some of the other ways we use to effectively lock away our valuables include self contained security spaces such as Metal Lockers and the safety deposit boxes used in financial institutions like banks.

In the financial world, a lock can also refer to the act of closing an important business deal or contract for services (as used in "locking the deal down" or "this contract is a lock").

During music's disco and hip hop eras, the "lock" was also a brief dance fad.

On the internet, you'll find bloggers clocked, locked and loaded at sites like Lock Your Blog.
