Better late than never is my policy Well I have since returned back to my glorious air conditioned house opposed to the scorching hot baseball diamonds of Grant Park at Lollapalooza. I have been going to Lollapalooza since 2004 and this year I definitely felt a little bit old.

Gnarls Barkley on the AT&T Stage A long deep sleep after Moby was imperative if I was going to make it through the grueling heat and packed crowd that Kanye West would surely bring along for his performance on Sunday. After waking up around noon and stopping by the hotel restaurant for a Grilled Chicken Caesar salad, it was off to Lollapalooza for Day 3.

Spank Rock As we entered through the media area on Day 2, a comforting sense of calm came over me that was not at all present on the first day. Maybe it was because the temperature had dropped a few degrees. Maybe it was because the media area had cleared out a bit.

I’m now four days removed from this year’s Lollapalooza, and I find myself thanking God that nothing happened to me that would project flashbacks a la Vietnam. I still have matching bruises on my knees, albeit they are fading. My jaw, which suffered a blow from what I’m pretty sure was an unintentional fist thrown, has recovered.

This was an upbeat, up-tempo show that started out strong but lulled in the middle. At one point the singer said, “This is our big pop song,” then proceeded to play one of the blandest songs we heard all weekend.

These tours always sound pretty interesting. I’d love to listen to the history of The State/Fillmore Theatre, especially the third floor men’s room. But $40? And no bands are playing? And it starts how early in the morning? Something tell me I’m not Preservation Wayne’s target demographic.
