incoming emails being deleted

i have windows vista and using windows mail. when i receive an email, open it and then close it, and then go to another folder like, "sent" or "junk email" and then go back to my "inbox", the last email i opened is deleted. system does not ask to delete and the deleted email is not in my "deleted" folder.
