mediterranean diet

Tag details

The Mediterranean diet is based on the eating habits of people who lived in the Mediterranean regions of Greece and southern Italy during the early 1960s. It was discovered that over this time period, these individuals had lower incidences of heart disease and lived longer and healthier lives than those living in other European countries and the United States.

Due to its proven ability to reduce heart attacks and other chronic conditions as well as increase longevity, the Mediterranean diet is a popular topic among health conscious bloggers who want to enhance both the quality and quantity of their lives.

The eating plan emphasizes consuming a wide assortment of plant foods including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and beans. Used abundantly for cooking and dressings, olive oil replaces butter and the other saturated and trans fats commonly found in the typical American diet. Light to moderate wine consumption (especially red wine) with meals is advocated. Followers of this dietary plan eat very little red meat, substituting instead cold water fish such as salmon, trout, and tuna. Dairy is ingested in small quantities mainly as yogurt and cheese. This cuisine provides an enticing mixture of textures, flavors, colors, and aromas. The food choices are not only visually appealing but more importantly, are flavorful and healthful as well, making this an extremely easy eating plan to maintain over the long term.
