To get a credit card merchant account, you must apply and qualify. There are dozens of credit card merchant account providers, so it may be somewhat difficult to choose one. Always go with one who is with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). You don't want a fly-by-night outfit that does things unethically, or worse, scams you.

Make sure your merchant account provider accepts the major credit cards like Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover, and debit cards. It's nice also to be able to have one that will take personal checks.

Find out if the merchant account provider requires a contract. Can you get service for internet, wireless and retail? What are the fees? Read any fine print! Many times it's safest to go with one whom a friend or acquaintance is already using and is happy with.
