Microsoft Windows refers to a series of desktop and server operating systems developed by Microsoft. The operating system was first introduced in 1985 by Microsoft and is now considered the most popular and dominating OS on the market with a market share of more than 90% in the desktop segment.

The most recent client version of Windows is the Windows 7 operating system which was introduced by Microsoft in October 2009.

Windows 7 since then was sold more than 90 million times according to a March 2010 press release of Microsoft reaching a market share of 15% in less than six months surpassing Windows Vista as the most successful Microsoft operating system of all time.

Previous Microsoft systems like Windows XP or Windows Vista are still being used by the majority of computer users. Ending support and the lack of feature support will accelerate the move to the latest Windows operating system in 2010.
