MotoGP is the world's oldest  and one of the most famous motorcycling championships. It includes 18 Grand Prix events per season with three individual races each. MotoGP events are taking place in 14 different countries with participation of the world's most prominent motorcycle manufacturers such as Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki and Yamaha.

MotoGP motorcycles are purpose-built and cannot be legally driven on public roads. There are three categories in MotoGP races:

  • MotoGP category - the highlight of the event. These are 800cc four-stroke motorcycles with the minimum riders' age at 18. There are usually 19 riders in this category
  • 250cc category motorcycles have twin-cylinder engines and the riders' minimum age is 16. 25 riders usually race in this category.
  • 125cc category motorcycles with single cylinder engine. This category is intended for younger riders ages 15 to 28. Around 30 riders usually enter the race

MotorGP races last approximately 40 to 45 minutes and the distances vary between 95 and 130 km. The riders' starting positions are defined by qualifying times.
