murder

Murder is the unlawful, premeditated killing of another individual human being. Premeditation is what makes murder legally distinct from other kinds of homicide, such as manslaughter, which requires a lack of any intention to kill or create a deadly situation for the victim.


Murder is considered in many societies to be among one of the most serious crimes an individual can commit against fellow human beings. In most countries, people who are convicted of murder are usually given harsh sentences, which can sometimes mean life imprisonment, or even the death penalty, although this practice has become less common in recent years.
