Several types of fruit are an acquired taste...much like chicken pox is an acquired sickness. However, muscadine grapes are one of those types of fruit that is winning fans worldwide because of its great taste and amazing health benefits.

Muscadine
is a grape species that is indigenous to the United States. This grape has been cultivated for use in wines since the 1400's in warm, humid climates such as Texas, North Carolina, and Florida. Today, it's estimated that there are more than 300 muscadine varieties growing in the southern states. Ranging from bronze to dark purple to black to green — the skin of the muscadine grape is tough and hard to eat raw. However, muscadine grapes are used in making wines, jellies, juices, preserves, syrups, sauces, etc.

Recent discoveries show that the muscadine grape provides greater amounts of antioxidants than many better-known red wines. Some studies even show that muscadine wines contain over five times more resveratrol than ordinary red wines.
