Mutual funds have become a widespread financial instrument by which money gathered from a group of people, called shareholders, is used to buy stocks and bonds.

Each party holds some shares, which are part of the total holdings of the fund. This is a wonderful way for people who don't have vast amounts of money to be able to make an investment.

Mutual funds usually have a set of objectives and are able to raise money by selling shares of the fund to the open public. The money obtained this way is then used to buy various financial assets.

Each shareholder receives an equity position within the fund and will earn income from dividends on stocks and interests on bonds.

One great aspect of investing in mutual funds is the idea of shared and spread-out risk. When you invest in individual stocks and bonds, you take all the risk unto yourself, whilst a mutual fund will be used to purchase a vast number of assets, where the loss of one is balanced by multiple gains from the others.

The minimum investment in mutual funds is usually quite small and most banks can offer deals that are advantageous to clients with reduced financial capabilities.
