I am reading a great book by Pete Gall called “My Beautiful Idol.” It’s a story of personal discovery about life, faith, and grace. Pete is an incredible writer. Normally I wouldn’t pick up a book like this but I am so glad I did. Check out this very challenging and honest selection about a guy named Critter who was trying to get clean in recovery.

My Beautiful Idol by Pete Gall is an autobiographical journey through five years of transition in the life of the author. Gall originally self-published this work and it is his first published book. My Beautiful Idol is a story of seeking, recognizing and following God.

If The Ooze hadn’t sent a copy of My Beautiful Idol to review, I probably would not have ever bothered reading it (a 300 page book with no pictures is a bit much for me these days). But I’m glad I did. Everyone seems to be comparing Pete Gall’s book to Blue Like Jazz since it’s in the spiritual memoir genre.

A few weeks ago, I was sent a copy of My Beautiful Idol, by Pete Gall, for review. A long plane trip earlier this week gave me the chance to really dig in to the book. Once I did, it was easy to stick with it. Much like Blue Like Jazz, My Beautiful Idol is a spiritual memoir of a young man trying to make sense of life in his early 20s.

A few weeks ago I was notified that I was one of 50 bloggers selected to partner with The Ooze to be an “Ooze Select Blogger.” I feel privileged to have been picked, and I hope I can do this whole book review thing justice. I’ve never, ever done a serious review before, so I would appreciate lots of feedback on how I can improve these in the future.

Book Review - My Beautiful Idol So I recently joined the group of Ooze Select bloggers which basically means I get to read cool books and review them here. Works for me. The first selection I was sent was Peter Gall’s My Beautiful Idol. Before I go any further though I do have a confession to make.

Conveniently for my weekly book reading, I got hooked up with the Ooze blogger program, and now I get books shipped to my door every once in a while to read, enjoy and review. The first, My Beautiful Idol, by Pete Gall, I received last week and finished in a few days.

I read a recently released book this past week called My Beautiful Idol, by first time author Pete Gall. My Beautiful Idol is a confessional memoir following Gall’s faith journey through his mid-twenties. I’m a sucker for memoirs. Yes, they are all the rage nowadays, and as much as I might like to resist current fads, I can’t resist this one.
