namibia
Namibia became independent from South Africa March 21, 1990 following the Namibian War of Independence. It is officially called the Republic of Namibia.
With a population of approximately 2.1 million people it is the second least densely populated country in the world. (2.5 persons per square kilometer).
As of 1990 the official language is English. Afrikaans, German and Oshiwambo are other languages commonly used.
In 2008 51% of the adult population were unemployed with the state relying heavily on mining (uranium) and eco-tourism. African safari holidays to Kruger National Park and South Africa safari tours to Vitoria Falls also help offset the economic troubles of the state.
