Netflix is a company that offers streaming television via the Internet. Several devices connected to the Internet, either wired or wireless, provided they have a Netflix app, can stream television shows and movies. Some of the Netflix capable devices include the Nintendo Wii and other gaming consoles, computers, as well some of the newer smart televisions.

For a small monthly rate, $8 in Canada, Netflix subscribers can stream to multiple devices in their home. The small monthly fee and the ability to connect to multiple devices was in part, a marketing tactic to avoid pirating or sharing of the service. Additionally, Netflix offers the first month for free, giving people a chance to test the service before committing. Additionally, pausing the service is also an option so you are not billed while on vacation for example.

While the service does not replace traditional TV channels, cable TV, visiting the theater or local movie rental place, it does offer a collection of TV shows, cartoons, movies and documentaries from the past. Often the collection has shows that are year or more in age.

People who want to enjoy the streaming service in the comfort of their living room have the opportunity to hook up Netflix on their TV. While there are several websites that explain how to get Netflix on TV, the simplest way to achieve this would be to use either an Xbox, PS3 or PC with a media center that supports the Netflix TV plug-in.

Consequently, when one subscribes to Netflix, they have the option to choose how they want to watch the videos. Depending on the option chosen, the subscriber will received either a software installation CD or a downloadable application.However, desktop or laptop computers can also be directly connected to the TV, without the need for an extra plug-in.

Internet connected devices, such as Blueray players or HDTV sets that are already configured to work with Netfix will ensure a high quality signal. A good wireless internet connection is usually all that is needed. Media players that support Netflix, like Roku, Western Digital WD Live, Popbox, and FreeAgent Theater+ enable the user to access their own content and set up a libraries.
