Thank you so much for all your kind words. It’s overwhelming (in a good way) to read all the comments - so many people have taken the time to send their best wishes. I’m going to post the next week or so with no supporting words or comments, but I do want to keep posting - holding onto normality, I guess. Please ...

  • No photos this weekend - sad news.

Newcastle Upon Tyne Daily PhotoAuthority Authority: 127
I found out on Wednesday that I’ve had a miscarriage. D (my husband) and I are obviously very upset - it’s come as a major shock as there were no signs that there was anything wrong. Please feel free to leave messages on this post, but I’d be really grateful if you keep it to this post only. I plan not to ...

This is the guy perching on top of Monument. I kind of feel sorry for him now the tower can rarely be climbed. Noone goes up to visit him any more. I wonder if he’s lonely?

People of Newcastle have proved it that economic prosperity and heavy industry should be of no hindrance to make one’s city green and sustainable. Newcastle-upon-Tyne came as a surprise winner this year as it claimed top spot as greenest city in sustainability audit of Britain. The very fact that in the past it had ...

It’s been a bit since we’ve had a shot of the coast, so here’s one of the North Pier lighthouse. And then another of tynemouth from taken from out at the lighthouse. I’ve featured this building various times before, but never focussing on the top. It looks like something Hansel and Gretel would find while wandering through the woods, to me, and I never fail to be surprised when I crane my neck to see it more clearly.

  • Newcastle Central Library, Princess Square

Newcastle Upon Tyne Daily PhotoAuthority Authority: 127
This is the back of the library. It’s where the main entrance used to be. The square has been improved considerably. The holes where the trees and bushes used to grow through have been filled in and it’s got seating outside for the cafe. A lot more pleasant than it used to be.

These flowers are outside one of the entrances to Fenwicks. I love how they line the entrance to the Food Hall. (The Christmas window has been there for at least a week. No pics yet though people. It’s only November!!!)

Just for Dave, who - like me - didn’t notice the ‘Grand Hotel’ lettering as early as he could’ve (it’s visible to the top left, although quite small in this pic) :) You can also see the Students’ Union building to the right of the picture - the red and white brick building with the tower.

This is the Grand Hotel Building. It currently consists of a Newcastle University coffee shop, Blackwell’s Bookshop, a sandwich shop that I used to love but haven’t frequented in years (is it still any good? anyone?) and the Crow’s Nest pub. When I first moved to Newcastle it was Inventions. That was quite a ...

This is a repost video, a rather bumpy view of Grainger Street. The audio is the sound of the bells of St. John the Baptist church which is on the left in the video. Enjoy! Thanks for putting up with my video posts the past few Wednesdays. We’ll return to regular photo postings starting next week.
