Although many people prefer to access the news on television or online, the newspaper is still a favorite among those who like to engage other senses besides sight and sound — like touch and smell. As strange as that sounds, some people still want something tangible in their hands that they can turn the pages of, detect the smell of the newsprint, and hear the rustling of the pages. It's a fuller experience for these folks.

Newspaper
sales are down across the board, and some newspapers are "folding" (pun intended). But, newspapers still serve the same function as they always have, which is to alert people to the goings-on in their world. Some newspapers serve a city, some serve a state, and some serve a nation. Newspapers cover the good, the bad, and the ugly. A newspaper may be a good thing to help keep you up to date, but it may also depress you. Some newspapers (like tabloids) offer mostly shock value.

Newspapers usually have many sections in them, and publish news covering everything from local to international to sports to obituaries to editorials. Many newspapers also have a classifieds section where people may look for traditional jobs or even work from home jobs. Newspapers can even offer coupons, movie listings, comics, and horoscopes.
