Obesity has climbed the charts to become the leading cause of preventable death in the 21st century. While the medical community treats symptoms of obesity such as diabetes, heart disease and some cancers there is little to be done to stop obesity from starting in the first place. The obesity epidemic has become a billion dollar industry with companies marketing quick fixes and glamorizing flat abs and simple cures. However, as we see with the climbing statistic; none have resulted in the answer to fighting this disease.

Obesity was formerly considered a disease of affluence but with it reaching global proportions we now can consider it a side affect of poor food quality as well. With fast food options on each street corner, as well as poorly run food education in most schools, there is no end in sight for obesity and the death grip it has on the modern era.

Eating the right amount of calories and exercising are the real answer to obesity. Despite the recent studies showing genetic predisposition to becoming obese, prevention of the disease is still possible. Move your body more and consume less calories to prevent becoming obese. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, was teaching this lesson long before modern man created the diet pill or home gym equipment.
