Office Depot, under the leadership of Pat Sher, Stephen Dougherty, and Jack Kopkin opened its first store in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1986. Since then, Office Depot has grown in leaps and bounds to help outfit the offices of millions of business and personal customers.

In 1988, just two years after its incorporation, Office Depot filed for its IPO and currently trades under the symbol ODP. By 1991, the company had bought out a competitor, Office Club, so it could enter the West Coast market. Although the dot-com bust in 2000 did have its effects on Office Depot, the company was able to thwart these losses by expanding into Europe and opening several dozen stores.

Office Depot's headquarters are in Delray Beach, Florida. As of 2008, the company had over 50,000 employees and over 1,000 stores worldwide, including outlets in Canada, France, and Israel.
