Officially founded in 1988 by Michael Feuer in Cleveland, Ohio, Office Max actually has roots that go all the way back to 1901 in Chicago, Illinois as a Horder's hardware store. This store would eventually grow into Boise Cascade Office Products, the principal owner of the Office Max customers nationwide know today.

The first Office Max store was built in 1988 in the city of Mayfield Heights, Ohio. In just two decades, the office supply store has grown exponentially in size, presenting consumers with over 900 stores and employing over 35,000 associates as of 2008.

Office Max also offers its customers a rewards program, known as MaxPerks.
