organic coffee

Tag details

Organic coffee is the popular term for coffee grown with only organic fertilizer and without the use of pesticides, which in turn makes it healthier for the end user. The term can extend though to the methods of processing coffee as well.

U.S.D.A. requirements for organic coffee production include: farming without synthetic pesticides or other prohibited substances for three years and a sustainable crop rotation plan to prevent erosion, the depletion of soil nutrients, and control for pests.

Third-party certification can attest to a coffee's true organic origins. Organic coffee is grown in over forty countries, with the leading producers being Peru, Ethiopia, and Mexico.

Besides the coffee itself, organic coffee products include decaffeinated, flavored and instant coffees, organic coffee ice cream and yogurt, coffee sodas, coffee hard candies, and chocolate covered coffee beans.

As decaffeinating coffee uses a variety of toxic solvents, drinkers of decaffeinated coffee can enjoy knowing that the organic coffee caffeine extraction process uses only water to produce decaffeinated organic coffee.
