oscars
The Oscars, also called the Academy Awards, is the annual ceremony where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences hands out awards honoring the best in American film for that year. The dozens of prizes include the awards for best motion picture, best director, best actor and actress, and best supporting actor and actress .
Receiving an Oscar represents the top of the mountain for any aspirant filmmaker, actor, or director. There are your Golden Globes and SAGs, but there is only one Oscar. The history of the Oscars reads like a veritable who's who of Hollywood royalty.
Each year millions of viewers tune in to watch the nationally televised Oscars show, drawing some of the years biggest television ratings. Many tune in to see the Hollywood celebrities on the red carpet — and who is wearing or saying what — as they do to cheer on their favorite movies and actors. You never know quite what to expect, hence the mass appeal of Hollywood's biggest night.
In the blogosphere, the Oscars are also a very big deal. Some bloggers will log their awards predictions, while others follow the action at the parties.
