pagerank

Pagerank is a numerical measurement out of 10 that the search engine Google uses to rank each and every public web page on the Internet.


Pagerank will determine where in the search engine results web pages rank based on specific keywords.

It used to be that a page would rank higher based on the instances of the keyword on that page, i.e. the higher the keyword density, the higher the ranking.

Spotting obvious flaws in that ranking system, Google started using Pagerank which counts the number, and the authority, of the backlinks to a particular site.

Still leaving open the ability to game the system and artificially achieve higher rankings, it is certainly a better way to get more relevant search results in Google.
