patrick dempsey

Patrick Dempsey (born 1966) actor, has performed on stage, in movies and on television.  Cast as the lead in teen comedy/romance films like Can't Buy Me Love and Loverboy gave him national exposure.  Television called and his first big break was a recurring role on the series Will and Grace. 

The 1990s and early 2000s saw Dempsey go back and forth between movies and TV.  While he had some success in both areas, Sweet Home Alabama and Iron Jawed Angels for example, it seemed like he would never again reach his earlier fame.

In 2005 Patrick Dempsey was given the role of Dr. Derek Shepherd in a new TV show, Grey's Anatomy.  His good looks earned his character the nickname Dr. McDreamy, a term that would become a part of our vernacular.  His career has skyrocketed since being cast on one of television's highest rated shows.  In 2008 he had a spot in a joint poll by Entertainment Tonight and Parade Magazine for The Top Ten Favorite Stars.
