pearls

Pearls are generally spherical in shape, made from calcium carbonate and form within the shell of a mollusk. In today's market, the majority of pearls have been farmed which means that they have been created with human intervention.

Saltwater and freshwater pearls that come about naturally have more value than farmed pearls and because of the high value are often classified as gemstones.

Typical uses of pearls are of course to create jewelry. Less well known uses of pearls are for cosmetics, paint and even medications.
