A pen is a writing tool used when the writing needs to be in ink-form.

Pens are the most widely used writing instrument in the world. They come in all different colors, most commonly black, blue or red. Important documents are often required to be filled out in black.

In excess of 2 billion pens are manufactured yearly in the U.S. There are 4 main types of pens including ballpoint pens, fountain pens, soft-tip pens and rolling-ball pens.

Pens are sometimes used as promotional tools for small businesses as an inexpensive form of advertising. Promotional pens could contain a company logo or phone number on it to encourage marketing of the business.
