Penélope Cruz Sánchez was born on April 28, 1974 in Madrid, Spain. Long before anyone in Hollywood had even heard of her, Penelope Cruz had established herself as one of international cinema’s top draws thanks to her appearances in such critically acclaimed Spanish-language efforts as 1992’s Belle Epoque and 1997’s Open Your Eyes.

Aside from having been romantically linked to some of the biggest actors in Hollywood - including high-profile relationships with Tom Cruise, Matthew McConaughey and Orlando Bloom - Penélope Cruz has appeared in a number of successful films, including: Blow (2001), Vanilla Sky (2001) and The Good Night (2007).

Penélope Cruz has firmly established herself as one of the most talented and flat-out gorgeous actresses to emerge from Spain’s sunny shores. She received her first Academy Award nomination in 2006 for her gritty performance in director Pedro Almodóva's critically acclaimed Spanish drama Volver. At the 2009 Academy Awards, Penélope Cruz took home her first Oscar statuette for her portrayal of an eccentric and tempestuous artist in Woody Allen's film Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
