In life, hardships arise, ensue, and are overcome. This is just part of life. It's pretty much the same for everyone. But if you have a pet cat to help you get through some of those rough patches in life, it makes all the difference in the world.

Cats have a worldwide population that exceeds 500 million, however, only a fraction of that number are actually domesticated cats. In the United States, there are some 80 million household cats.

Although cat ownership has commonly been associated with women, a recent Gallup Poll reported that men and women were equally likely to own a cat.

In the United States, a non-purebred cat or a cat that does not have its papers is sometimes referred to in slang terms ("barn" or "alley" cat). Cats come in a variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and patterns. It should be remembered that these are all physical properties of the cat and sometimes mean nothing when it comes to their actual breed or type.
