While the photo has been around for over 175 years, the current trends in digital photography point to the onset of a new golden age of photography. This has to do with the fact that a whole new set of rules are being developed, and many of the old rules are being either broken or redefined.

Many of the same techniques that were done in the days of Ansel Adams are still valid, but now with tools like Adobe Photoshop, you have many more methods of working with a photo, as well as many more opportunities for manipulation, and even dishonesty.

Even the definition of what a photo is has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. Since 1826 when the first recognized photo was taken by Nicephore Niepce, a photo was something that had substance and could be held in your hands. Today, it can still be that, but now it can be shared on a website, placed in a digital picture frame, or even projected on to a wall. Only time will tell what a photo will become in the future.
