php|architect’s Guide to Enterprise PHP Development is out June 18th, 2008 I'm happy to announce that as of today, my book entitled 'php|architect's Guide to Enterprise PHP Development' is available. The book covers the entire development life cycle of PHP projects, and can be ordered through the php|architect website.

Today, I’ll be reviewing php|architect’s Guide to Programming Magento by Mark Kimsal. Magento is a relatively new open-source e-commerce application written in PHP with a MySQL back. All in all, the Magento package is an impressive application with great administrative features and a flashy user interface.

For about 6 months now, I've been itching to write a book on the PHP Streams Layer - one of my favorite features of PHP; and also one of the least known considering it's powerful abilities. However, I've been hampered by the fact that I didn't think it would make that good a book, in that it would be rather short.

I've recently read Cal Evans's Zend Framework book. Before I voice my opinion, a disclaimer: I have met Cal personally; in fact I'm having diner with him next Monday, I'm writing a book for php|architect, and my company is a Zend partner. I could not be any more biased.
