    This post is meant to follow my explanation of "Why is Quantum discrete?" Mixed states As I explained before, Quantum Mechanics implies that bound particles have discrete energy levels. If a particle is on one of these energy levels, we would say it is in a pure quantum state (or "eigenstate").

    An American physicist from Chicago is celebrating a Nobel Prize win for an advanced physics concept he helped formulate more than four decades ago. Yoichiro Nambu, an 87-year-old scientist with the University of Chicago, was one of three recipients of the highly esteemed honor, announced Tuesday.

    Three physicists receive Nobel for work on particle symmetry

    Two Japanese and an American scientist have received the Nobel Prize in physics for their work on the underlying symmetry between subatomic particles.  Basically, it involves looking for symmetries that aren’t readily apparent in the structure of quarks, the very smallest constituents of matter.
