pinkeye

Tag details

Pinkeye which is more commonly spelled pink eye, is defined by WebMD as "redness and swelling of the conjunctiva, the mucous membrane that lines the eyelid and eye surface. The lining of the eye is usually clear. If irritation or infection occurs, the lining becomes red and swollen."

Pink eye can be contracted by several methods. These include other airborne infections caused by virus or bacteria, dry eyes, chemical conjunctivitis, and basic allergies. Common symptoms of the infection include redness of the eye, eyelids which are red and swollen, more tears, itching and/or burning sensations, and light sensitivity.

The best way to battle pink eye depends on the type of infection which caused it; however, even with medicine, people carrying the ailment should stay clear of others until the infection shows signs of abating, as it is highly contagious.
