If your doctor has recommended that you have a chorionic villus sampling test - a test to check for genetic abnormalities in the fetus, the newest research may be of some comfort to you. CVS is done as early as 10 weeks. It can be done through the abdomen, like an amniocentesis, or through the cervix.

This morning we were happy to view, ooh, and ahh over this image: That there is the baby I am currently carrying and we are in love. The ultrasound was about 45 minutes of measurements and showing off. The baby waved to us, blew some bubbles, and did some acrobatics.

Even though the placenta is often poo poo'd as not important by so many, for the rest of us the process surrounding the dignity and reverence of such a great life giving organ is important. I was lucky enough to be invited along to a special ceremony to celebrate the placenta and return it to the earth.

An acquaintance of mine -- she's given birth four times -- hands over her babies' umbilical cords to her mother. Nana then waits for inspiration, shapes the cords accordingly and allows them to dry. Then she mounts them for wall hanging. And, you know, hangs them.
