Comedian Jack Handy once quipped, "I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system."

Although it's highly unlikely that any more planets will be added to our solar system, several dwarf planets have been added to the list of planets in our solar system. Pluto was recently relegated to "dwarf planet," and now joins Ceres, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris as the dwarf planets of the solar system.

Planets usually rotate around a sun, each on their own axis and tilt. And even though you may have thought that you changed the earth's rotation with that golf divot you had at last week's company golf tournament, the fact is it takes something much, much bigger than that to move a planet off its axis.

Every planet relies on solar power from the sun. Whether it's Mercury, zooming around the sun every 87 days; or Pluto, which takes 250 years to make a rotation around the sun, all planets rely on the sun for solar power and to remain in motion.
