plants
If you want to find out how old someone is, but don't want to sound rude, just ask them, "If you were a tree, how many rings would you have?"
Uses for trees and other plants are as varied as they are diverse. The cultivation of plants is part of agriculture, which serves as the basis of our civilization. Plants are used for most food stuffs, especially rice, wheat, and corn. Other food staples are potatoes, fruits, and nuts. Drinks produced from plants include coffee and tea.
But the nonfood products produced by plants are equally as important. Where would our world be without wood or cotton? Or how would our world be affected if we didn't have renewable fuels such as firewood, peat, pellets, and bio fuels? Coal and petroleum are fossil fuels derived from plants. Aspirin is a medicine derived from plants. Pesticides, drugs, poisons, soap, paints, waxes, shampoos, plastic, perfumes, chewing gum, and almost anything else you can imagine is derived from plants.
Our world would not exist today if it were not for trees and other plants with which we co-exist on this planet.
