plasma

Tag details

Plasma is, in Physics, a form of ionized gas that represents a fourth state of matter because its properties are different from those of solids, liquids or gases. Plasma is very common in space, where it is found in stars (including our Sun), solar winds and nebulae. On earth, it is found naturally in the ionosphere, in lightning and in aurorae. Plasma can also be artificially created - rocket exhaust and arc welders, for example, create plasma, and fluorescent lighting uses plasma in their bulbs.

When the term plasma is found in the blogosphere, 99% of the time, it is referring to plasma television displays - a flat-panel television technology that uses plasma gases in its screens. In fact, the term plasma has become short-hand for plasma television or flat-panel plasma display. Thus, you may hear people saying, "Hey I just upgraded my plasma this weekend! I got a 60"!"

Because plasma is used mainly to refer to plasma televisions in the blogosphere, most of the blogs using "plasma" as a tag are gadget and tech sites. These include engadget.com, itechnews.net, tvsnob.com and cybertheater.com.
